There are three kinds of ratings-deck, engine room and catering is responsible for cargo handing, mooring/unmooring and generl maintenance of theship. Similarly the engine room ratings assist the engineering officers in maintenance and operation of engines and associated equipmen. he catering crew consists of Steward/Cooks and as the name suggest. they look after the citrine and the housekeeping of officer cabin.
Eligibility
The minimum eligibility for courses in Merchant Navy is Matriculation (10th) in any stream from any board. Candidate need to pass a medical fitness test for sea service under standard norms and with eyesight 6/6 and no lour blindness. they must be immune to sea sickness.
Job Prospects and Career Option
Merchant Navy is the backbone of interational trade, carrying cargo across the globe. Without the merchant navy, much of the import-export business would grind to a halt.
Deck Department
A candidate after finishing his pre-* sea training is eligible to join a ship as a seaman as Deck Rating. A Seaman is expected to get a salary of around 25,000/-to 30,000/- as entry level.
Engineering Department
A candidate joining as a seaman in engine Rating is also expected to get a salary 20,000/- to 26,000 per month. |
